Why Write This Instead of Letting AI Produce It?
I started designing websites when I had to write out the code and manually configure each site’s setup. I couldn’t see what I had created until I uploaded it by having a modem dial and connect to a remote server. Once the file was uploaded (which took time back then), I went to the page on the web to view it. I had no way to see it on my computer as I was working before it was manually transferred to another computer online. To fix or revise something, I had to do the whole process again. It was tedious and time-consuming.
I had a lot of control, but it required a lot of knowledge and a lot of time – similar to the way I am typing each letter of this post and not having AI write it for me. To write this, I need to think about the topic, craft the message, form the content and then type it out. Why would I do that?
I can have AI learn to type in my voice (see https://ruben.substack.com/p/i-am-just-a-text-file ), I can give it topics and specify what I want it to mention. I can at least use it for a first draft, can’t I?
Sure I can. It is faster and easier than writing it by hand, but it won’t be an expression of myself, it will not have been crafted by me.
If your goal is to pump out content for your website, your blog or your LinkedIn posts, AI generated content may be “good enough,” but I am going for excellence. I am a thought leader in my industry and what I have to write is unique, otherwise why would you be reading this? I want to make you think, not just churn out an article of facts.
Let me know if I’ve succeeded.
