Claude is a Dunce

Teaching Claude to Remember

I admit it. I can’t stand it when people don’t learn from their mistakes. Now that includes AI too.
It happens to me fairly often that I am repeating myself to Claude. From session to session it does not always remember everything it learned or discovered last time. To me, this is very frustrating and a waste of time.

So I found a solution.

If you have a topic in a chat that you think you will return to, and you want Claude to remember what it already knows, you can make a Masters Preferences Document, to summarize everything at the end of one chat session, save it and then upload it at the beginning of your next chat on the same topic and Claude will remember everything it learned and discovered in the previous session.

Here’s how you do it:

Paste this into your chat when you are finished your current session –

Please create an updated Master Preferences Document as an text file that I can use at the start of future sessions to instantly brief you on everything we have established.

The document should be comprehensive. Please produce this as a clean, well-structured text file. Every item should be specific and actionable — written so that a new instance of Claude can read it and immediately apply every rule without needing clarification.

Ask me any questions. Create a better prompt for this.

Save the document and then, at the start of a new session on the same topic, just upload this file and say “please read my preferences document” — that will get Claude up to speed in seconds.
